What is a Cookie?

Cookies are strings of text sent by a web server (i.e. the website) to the user’s internet browser, which automatically stores them on the user’s computer and sends them back to the server at any occurrence or any future access to the website.
Each cookie contains different data, such as the name of the server that sent it, an identification number, etc.
Cookies can be stored in the system for the length of a user’s session ( that is, until the browser used to surf the web is closed) or for longer periods, and they can contain a unique identification code.
Almost all web browsers are set to accept cookies automatically by default, nevertheless every browser allows you to limit or delete cookies (for further information see the section ‘How to disable or delete cookies’). Remember, however, that disabling or deleting cookies may compromise optimal use of certain areas of the website.

Type of Cookie used by Wimonitor

Wimonitor website uses the following types of cookie:

- Technical cookies: these cookies are used only to carry out the transmission of a communication on an electronic communication network, or insofar as it is strictly necessary to the provider of an information society service that has been explicitly requested by the contracting party, or user, to provide said service.
In detail, these types of markers can, in turn, be further subdivided into: a) navigation or session cookies, which guarantee normal browsing and use of the website (e.g. they allow you to make a purchase or log in to access a restricted area); b) analytics cookies, which are similar to “technical” cookies, when used directly by the website manager to collect information in aggregate form on the number of users and on their ways of surfing the website; c) functional cookies, which enable users to surf the website based on a set of selected criteria in order to improve the service provided.

- Profiling cookies: these are aimed at tracking the user’s web navigation for the creation of a profile of their habits, choices, taste. Such profile is then used to send the user personalized advertising messages tailored on their very recorded preferences.
For the same purpose analytics cookies also can be used.

- Third-Party cookies: these cookies are installed on a specific website by a party other than the webmaster of the site in question: e.g. presence of “social plugins” aimed at sharing content on social networks; the presence of these plugins involves the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties; please refer to the relevant policy to find out how information collected by third parties is governed.

Link to Third-Party cookies

The release and use of third-party cookies are subject to the respective privacy protection policies. For better convenience and transparency, following are the links to webpages for the different cookie management information and modalities.

  • Analytics cookies: these cookies, together with the cache cookies, are set by Google Analytics to gather information on how visitors use the website, including the number of visitors, the websites of origin and the pages visited on our website; data on users’ Network Addresses is made anonymous through  the option provided by Google Analytics, therefore there won’t be user profiling.
  • Cookies for the visualization of embedded Youtube videos: https://www.google.it/intl/it/policies/technologies/cookies

HOW TO DISABLE, ACTIVATE OR DELETE COOKIES

Almost all web browsers are set to automatically accept cookies, but they can be limited or blocked through the browser settings. If you prefer websites to not store any cookies on your computer, change the browser settings so that it sends you a notification before the storing of any cookie. Alternatively, you may set the browser so to reject all cookies or only third-party cookies. You can also delete all cookies already present in the system.
It’s important to note that the settings have to be adjusted separately in every browser and computer used.
Blocking cookies won’t prevent the visualization of advertising, the just won’t be personalized according to your interests anymore and the same ones will show up more frequently

The procedure for adjusting the settings is different in every browser.
